Queen Anne Farmers Market and Queen Anne Elementary form partnership

January 3, 2012  |  Share
This year, Queen Anne Farmers Market and Queen Anne Elementary came together as community partners.  Queen Anne Elementary (QAE) is a local school with an on-site garden used to teach students about subjects ranging from sustainable farming to math, science and social studies– with a special interest in getting kids to think about where their food comes from and make eating choices that are healthy for them and their environment.  Queen Anne Farmers Market shares those ideals and is excited to work with the QAE Garden Committee to help promote their philosophy throughout the school and greater community.
This October, QAFM sponsored a field trip for the QAE 2nd and 3rd graders to Hand Farmed Organics Farm in Fall City.  We thought it would be fun for the kids to experience a true, working farm– no bells or whistles or mini-train rides, but lots of land to run around on, pumpkins to pick, grounds to explore, bee hives to (carefully) investigate, raw corn to sample, and chickens and pigs to feed.   Our friends at Hand Farmed Organics, Farmers Casey and Ryan, couldn’t have been more wonderful.   The October morning and afternoon that these kids spent at the HFO Farm was magical and we’re told they talked about it for days afterwards.  Thank you Hand-Farmed Organics!!!
We’re excited about our ongoing community partnership with Queen Anne Elementary and are firm believers in the value and positive effects of investing in future generations.
